Don’t worry, matte liquid lipstick fans: Even with the triumphant return of lip gloss, your shine-free look isn’t going out of style. And as long as people want a matte mouth, the most reliable way to achieve it — and keep the color in place all day — is with long-wearing matte liquid lipsticks. But as anyone who wears (or vehemently dislikes) liquid lipstick knows, it often has one major snag: It can make lips feel uncomfortably dry. One makeup lover on Reddit, spotted by Women’s Health, however, stumbled upon a hack that may eliminate that issue from here on out.
“Stila liquid lipsticks are my favorite but they are quite drying after several hours,” MakeupAddiction Redditor zershia77 said about Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick. “When I started running out of my favorite color Baci, I decided to add a few drops of almond oil to see how it changed the wear and also just to get every last drop of product out of the tube. Turns out I much prefer the formulation with a little oil in it.”
OK, so it feels better with a touch of almond oil, but does it change how it looks and lasts? Apparently not. “It doesn’t seem to change the look of it and it still wears all day long,” zershia77 writes. “There is slight transfer on my coffee mug in the morning but all in all its still a long wearing liquid lipstick that dries down matte.”
If you’re thinking, Oh snap, where did I put my almond oil?, you’re not alone. “I have not tried this but I will now,” one reply reads. Another says, “I absolutely despise liquid lips because they dry out my lips so I might try the almond oil since I love the color of Baci and it is probably the only liquid lip I use.”
And if you don’t have any almond oil already lying around, you can get a bottle of Now Sweet Almond Oil on Amazon for less than $3.
